Lew R. Walton, 92, formerly of Lincoln Ave., Meadville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center, died there Wednesday, June 18, 2014 following a period of declining health.
He was born July 8, 1921 in New Bedford, a son of Liberty Aretus and Osie Anna Paden Walton. He married Ruth R. Boyle January 27, 1962 and she preceded him in death August 28, 2012.
Lew was a graduate of Randolph High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 aboard the USS Tuscarora. He was employed as a mechanic and production worker at the American Viscose for 28 years and subsequently worked in security at the American Brakeshoe for 12 years.
A member of the Wadsworth Avenue Evangelical Church, Lew enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping.
Survivors include a step-daughter-in-law, Julia Catalano of Cambridge Springs; two step-grandsons, Douglas O. Catalano and his wife Kimberly of Remington, VA and Joel P. Catalano of Spruce Creek; a step-granddaughter, Erin S. Wheeler of Columbus, OH; and four nieces.
In addition to his parents and wife; he was preceded in death by a stepson, Joseph Catalano; his twin brother, William Linn Walton; a sister, Orpha Elizabeth McMahon; and a half-sister, Harriet Cheers.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gerald Walton, cousin and Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Wayland Cemetery.
