Lewis N. Martin (Lew) of 2388 Mercer Road, Stoneboro, PA passed away peacefully at 12:30 PM on October 11, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old. He was the son of Melvin W. and Rachel J. Martin. Lewis was born at his home in a small mining village, known as Maple Grove, which was situated at the line of Mercer and Venango County in Polk, PA. He moved to the nearby Sandy Lake at a young age and attended the former Sandy Lake High. After his graduation he attended Grove City College majoring in Electrical Engineering. Lew served two years in the United States Army at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After completing his tour, Lew was employed by The Westinghouse Electric at it’s East Pittsburgh facility, and later moved to the company’s location in Meadville, PA in their engineering department. In 1958, Lew founded Kemco Corp, an electric controls company, in Sandy Lake, PA. Today, the business is still operating in the same location under the name of Spang Power Electronics. Lew served as President for over forty-two years, before his retirement in 2000. Lew was active in several non-profit organizations throughout Mercer County. Some of them including: The Board of Trustee’s of UPMC, Board of Directors of Penn Northwest, Chairman of PA Economy League. Probably the most notable was being awarded the Distinguished Citizen’s Award for outstanding community service by the Boy Scouts of America. Lew was a lifelong member of the Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, he served on the Sandy Lake Borough Council for two terms and was a sixty-year member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #434 and served as its Worshipful Master in 1963. He served locally on the board of trustees of the Lakeview Industrial Development, the Board of the Stoneboro Fair and the Board of Oak Hill Cemetery Association. Lew loved to play golf and was a member of the former Greenville Country Club. After his retirement he and his wife Carol spent their winters in Sarasota Florida, where he belonged to the Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, formerly known as Carol Luffey of Pittsburgh, PA. In addition to his wife Carol he is survived by two sons, and a daughter and six grandchildren. His eldest son, Charles and his wife, Crystal, from Sandy Lake, PA, a daughter, Debra and her husband, Mark Gagen, of Potomac Falls, VA, his youngest son, Rex Martin, of Stoneboro, PA. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Shelly, of Rocky Point, NC, Alyssa, Matthew and Daniel Gagen, of Potomac Falls, VA, and Leah and her husband, Garret Grey, of Mercer, PA and Erin Martin, and her fiancé, Blake Heller, of West Middlesex. Lewis was a man of faith and lived life serving others. He loved his family and they loved him. He will be greatly missed. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 3236 S. Main Street, SANDY LAKE where family and friends are welcome on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM. A Masonic Service will take place at 4 PM. Additional visitation will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 10 – 11 AM at Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, 3461 Sandy Lake New Lebanon Road, Sandy Lake, PA 16145. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Beth Creekpaum, officiating. Masks will be required at the church.
