Lewis W. Pyle, 79, of Meadville, died unexpectedly at home Thursday, November 4, 1999.
He was born in Meadville April 13, 1920, a son of the late Cyrus I and Ester Tucker Pyle.
He was a graduate of the Meadville Public Schools and was a veteran of World War II with the US Army in the Pacific in Military Intelligence. He graduated from Allegheny College in 1948 and received his Masters and Doctorate in chemistry from Penn State University in 1953 and 1954 respectively. He did post doctoral work with the US Department of Health at Savanna, GA; Scripps Institute in San Diego, CA and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA. He returned to Allegheny College in 1956 as an instructor in the Chemistry Department and retired in 1991. As a Professor Emeritus, he continued teaching up until his death. He had many and varied interests including fishing, gardening and studying the weather.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
