Lisa Darlene Pratt, 45, of 10169 Grove Rd., Guys Mills, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family following a 3-year courageous battle with cancer.
She was born August 2, 1965 in Meadville, a daughter of Dorothy Shaffer Beck and the late Robert Beck of Meadville. She married Ryan Pratt August 18, 2001.
Lisa was a 1981 graduate of Meadville High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville. She worked at Multi-Tool and Plastics, Saegertown and Tapco Tube Co., Meadville. Along with her husband, she served as a foster parent to six children.
Lisa loved to read, watch movies and do scrap booking. She also made beautiful quilts for family members. She participated in "Celebrating Life in Style," a fashion show featuring women who have had or have cancer. Despite the many challenges her cancer presented, she remained the beautiful and positive person her family and friends so dearly loved. Throughout her illness, Lisa remained courageous and at home in the loving care of her family and hospice. She would say that the love of family is life's greatest blessing. Her life will remain an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
Survivors, in addition to her devoted husband Ryan of nine years, include her mother, Dorothy Beck of Meadville who lovingly cared for her for the past three years; two children, Holly Smith and her husband Grady of California and Carson Pratt at home; two granddaughters, Maylie and Zoe Smith of California; three sisters, Cynthia Ann Allen and Carol Lynn Kohler, both of Meadville and Brenda McGlynn of Scranton; two brothers, Mark Brown and his wife Mary of Kentucky and Dennis Jacklett and his wife Debbie of Meadville; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Rick Pratt of Meadville; her best friend, Kim Bowman of Meadville; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Beck and her maternal grandparents, Everett (Bill) and Helen Shaffer.
Ryan would like to thank all his aunts and uncles for all their help for the past six months, for the delicious home-cooked meals, for all the visits, for their help in building a wheelchair ramp and enclosed play yard for Carson. In addition, Ryan would like to thank all those who helped financially including family members, friends, neighbors, the bowling league, and anonymous donations from some very generous individuals. Also, all those who have supported the family with their prayers. He would like to thank his employer, Imperial Carbide, for being so understanding and flexible so he would have time to care for Lisa and Dr. Jason Brown and all the nurses at the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute for the wonderful care Lisa received.
