Lloyd Richard Holland, 72, of Conneaut Lake, died Sunday, August 27, 2000 at UPMC Horizon Hospital, Greenville Campus.
He was born in Geneva, PA, November 30, 1927, the son of Charles Holland and Clara Lloyd Holland Mosch. He married Barbara J. Johnson, September 1, 1951 in Beccaria, PA. She survives.
He was a graduate of Conneaut Lake High School and the Indiana University of PA in 1952 with majors in Speech, Drama and English. He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army serving as a Chaplain's Assistant. He retired in 1979 as a teacher from Linesville High School with 31 years of dedicated service. In 1967, after having worked for Conneaut Lake Cruises for several years he purchased the business which now operates the Barbara J. sternwheeler on Conneaut Lake. He was also an avid collector of Conneaut Lake memorbalia and was very knowledgeable of the boating history of Conneaut Lake.
He was very active in the community in which he loved. He helped to establish the Liberty II Museum Foundation and the Conneaut Lake Area Business Assn. of which he was also a member. he had previously been a member of the Borough council and the zoning board. he was also a member of the Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society of NWPA, the Erie Area Theater Organ Society, the Sons and Daughters of Pioneers Riverman, the Shriners, the American Sternwheel Assn., Welsh Club of Erie, Conneaut Lake Historical Society, Fifth Street Presbyterian Church and Christ Church Episcopal. He also had a keen interest in the environment and its conservation.
He was a self-taught organist, having first played for the Faith United Methodist Church in Geneva at the age of 14. His love and appreciation for music, he built a pipe organ during the early 1960s in his own home.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Barbara, include a daughter, Jacqueline E. Elliott (Charles) of Conneaut Lake; two sons, Rhys Lloyd Holland and David Lloyd Holland, both of Conneaut Lake; a sister, Mary Ida Wood of Atlantic, PA; two grandsons, Charles Lloyd Elliott and Jacob Tyler Elliott; a niece, two nephews, two great nephews and two great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Conneaut Lake.
