Lois L. Bertram, 93, of Saegertown, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Crawford County Care Center. She was born July 21, 1922 in Miola, Clarion County, a daughter of the late James Clark and Gracie R. McClain Knopp. She married Dr. Kenton W. Bertram December 21, 1957 and he preceded her in death March 6, 1999. Lois was a 1940 graduate of Saegertown High School and a 1943 graduate of the Spencer Hospital School of Nursing where she received her registered nurses degree. She additionally attended Edinboro and Penn State Universities earning her school nursing certification. Lois worked as a registered nurse at Spencer Hospital for 3 years and then as a school nurse at Saegertown, Venango, and Cambridge Springs schools. She subsequently was an active working partner with her husband at the Bertram Clinic in Saegertown for 25 years. Lois was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Meadville, Golden Crown Chapter #44 Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem, past patron of Order of the Amaranth Allegheny Chapter #115, and member of Farrell #120 Order of the Amaranth. Survivors include a son, Dr. K. James Bertram of Saegertown; a daughter, Kenlo McGowan and her husband Benedict of Saegertown; a granddaughter, Sarah M. Bertram of Columbus, Ohio; a step-granddaughter, Kimberlee Miller and her partner Susan Lethco of Saegertown; three step-great-grandchildren, Dan Miller and his wife Katie, Dean Miller, and Sharlyn Daughenbaugh and her husband Gary; four step-great-great-grandchildren, Bailey and Hailey Miller and Devan and Carletta Daughenbaugh; a sister, Ermal K. Wallgren of Upland, CA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Susan Lorz Bertram; a step-daughter, Dr. Sharlene Brown; two brothers, Von C. and Benjamin F. Knopp; and a sister, Carmen E. Collingwood. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with an Order of Eastern Star service at 6:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Benjamin Travis, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Venango Cemetery.
