Lorraine G. Smock

February 9, 1929 — December 6, 2007

Lorraine G. Smock, 78, of 17980 Turner Rd., Meadville, joined her heavenly family on Thursday, December 6, 2007 following a brief battle with cancer.

She was born in Meadville, February 9, 1929, a daughter of the late Lee and Esther Hanes Wills.  She married David Smock, Jr. November 16, 1946 and he survives.

She attended Meadville public schools and was a homemaker.  Lorraine loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She cared for them during illnesses and spoiled them at Christmas.  She enjoyed watching and feeding the many wild birds that came to her kitchen window and the deer and geese that frequented her yard.

A long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Dan Lamb Sunday School Class and was active in the United Methodist Women’s group.

Lorraine loved to bake and cook for her family.  She especially enjoyed gatherings of the family at her home for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.  She also enjoyed reading, shopping, and gardening.  She passed enjoyment of these pleasures on to her children and grandchildren.  She loved traveling with her husband Dave, especially trips to ocean beaches.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Dave of 61 years, include a son, David Smock and his wife Kathy of Hurlock, MD; 2 daughters, Linda Eidell and her husband Robert of Meadville and Jill McGowan and her husband James of Meadville; 6 grandchildren, Kristy Walker, Matthew Walker, Carrie Knipe and her husband Morgan, Michelle Kearns and her husband Chad, Adam Hoke, and Andrea Hoke; 3 great-grandchildren, Noah Blake, Sophie Kearns, and Logan Walker; a sister, Shirley Wills Killing of Warren, OH; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Franklin, Eugene, and Lee Wills and a sister, Evelyn Wills Sheehan.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 828 N. Main St., Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
