Lou Ann Swartzlander

August 27, 1932 — January 1, 2023

Lou Ann Swartzlander, 90, of Conneaut Lake, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 1, 2023, at The Grove at Greenville surrounded by her loving family.

She was born August 27, 1932, in North Braddock, a daughter of Richard and Hazel McEwen Downing.  She married Norman R. Swartzlander September 25, 1952.

Lou Ann worked in her youth at Conneaut Lake Park.  She subsequently worked at the G.C. Murphy Company, for Robert Gilardi, M.D., and at the Jackqueline Shop, First National Bank and Ardis Dress and Beauty Shop.

Lou Ann was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Conneaut Lake.  She was a life member and volunteered at Conneaut Lake Park VFD Station 5.  She also volunteered at Spencer Hospital and was past president of the Spencer Hospital auxiliary.

Lou Ann loved being at the Crawford County Fair where she announced the horse shows for 41 years and was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame.  She was a life member of the Western Pennsylvania Riding and Driving Club, was an avid reader, loved to swim, horseback ride and dance with her husband.  She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends and her beloved dog Susie Q.

Survivors, in addition to her loving husband Norman, include two daughters, Sandra Loreno (Tony Abati) of Conneaut Lake and Carol Singleterry of Sarasota, FL; a granddaughter, Linsey Loreno of Greenville; and a nephew, Glenn Milosh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Hazel (Boots) Milosh (Elmer); two brothers, Richard Downing, Jr., and Raymond (Buck) Downing (Shirley, “Tucker”); and two nephews, Tod and Rod Downing.

Calling hours will be Thursday, January 5th from 4-6 p.m. at WAID-COLEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 12422 CONNEAUT LAKE RD., CONNEAUT LAKE.

The funeral service will be Friday, January 6th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Hough officiating.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
