Louis Elliott Whiting

May 11, 1886 — April 9, 1965

Louis Elliott Whiting, of Meadville, former vice president and treasurer of Meadville Telephone Co., died Friday, April 9, 1965, at Spencer Hospital.

He became manager of the Meadville Telephone Co., in 1923 when the firm was less than 25 years old.  He came to Meadville from Jamestown, NY, where he had been associated with the Old Home - later Jamestown Telephone Co.  He had been affiliated with telephone companies since 1911 when he gave up teaching school to go to work for the Commercial Union - later Ridgeway Telephone Co.  He retired from Meadville Telephone Co., in June of 1957.

Whiting was born in Driftwood, May 11, 1886 and was graduated from Ridgway High School and attended Syracuse University.

He was married to the former Irene V. Lindhome on June 18, 1910.  His wife died September 9, 1964.

He was an early member of the Meadville Kiwanis Club, served as a member of the Meadville School Board in 1936-37; served on Community Chest drives in early years of its existence, was a member of the Round Table, former member and treasurer of Meadville Chamber of Commerce and was a member of Stone Methodist Church.

He is survived by two children, Miss Elizabeth Whiting of Meadville and Gifford E. Whiting of Jamestown, NY; a sister, Mrs. Rita Powell of Ridgway and one grandson, Charles E. Whiting of Jamestown, NY.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
