Louis Joseph Zicarelli, 78, of Conneautville passed away peacefully from chronic illness on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at UPMC Hamot holding his loving wife’s hand.
He was born in Massillon, OH on October 21, 1942 a son of Rocco and Lillian Nemeth Zicarelli. As a youth he attended a one room schoolhouse called the Guntown School that was located between Conneautville and Springboro and he was a 1960 graduate of Conneaut Valley High School.
Louis served in the Merchant Marine and worked on ships on the Great Lakes as a coal passer. He then worked for Potomac Electric Company in Washington, D.C., he was an electrician in Harleysville, PA before moving back to Conneautville and working as an electrician at Talon Zipper in Meadville. He then went on to be a dedicated union electrician with IBEW Local #712. He served as a parish usher as well as Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus at St. Peters Catholic Church in Conneautville.
Louis was a man who would help anyone who asked and loved to share all he knows with others. He enjoyed running a small farm to help provide for his family. He loved a big garden with lots of vegetables to can. He would hunt in the fall with his sons and guided them through rebuilding cars and motorbikes and all kinds of construction projects. He would read a book in one day and stay up all night watching westerns. He had a memory like a steel trap (he could still recite “The Cremation of Sam Magee”). He could talk your ear off and he LOVED to eat!!
Besides his parents, Rocco and Lillian Nemeth Zicarelli, Lou was preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Landis, Mary Katherine Reimers and Lillian Brock; and his grandson, Rocco Zicarelli.
Louis is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine Schweter Zicarelli; their seven children, Rocco Zicarelli (Linda), Rena Zicarelli (Steve), Louis Zicarelli (Gina), Edward Zicarelli (Toni), Catherine DeVore (Brian), Andrea Zicarelli (Mike), Teresa Crawford (Christopher); sixteen grandchildren, Elizabeth Ayers, Anthony Ayers, Trista Southwick (Dale), Ayrianda Hager (Dane), Robert Zicarelli, Dr. Brianna Zicarelli, Amber Zicarelli-Miner (Amy), Joseph Zicarelli, Gabriel DeVore, Thomas DeVore, Riley Crawford, Maisey Crawford, Olivia Brinkman, Maggie Brinkman, Chase Crawford and Mollie Crawford; thirteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Wetzel, Karen Douglas (Dave) and Teresa Jurgesen (Jay) and many nieces and nephews.
