Lowry (Bud) M. Rifenberrick, 86, of S. Norrisville Rd., Meadville, died Friday, October 9, 2009 at his residence.
He was born in Strattanville December 29, 1922, a son of the late William E. and Emma Myers Rifenberrick. He married Helen I. Boyer February 26, 1944 and she preceded him in death September 5, 1997.
He as a 1940 graduate of Rocky Grove High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in Germany and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Lowry was employed at the American Viscose for 38 years, retiring in 1984 as a maintenance mechanic.
He was a member of Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, Meadville Masonic Lodge 408 and was a member and past commander of Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842. He was a former member of the Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie and the Kismet Grotto. He enjoyed golfing and traveling.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Carol Rifenberrick of Richmond, VA and Susan Harris of Sibley, MO; a son, James M. Rifenberrick of Meadville; a daughter-in-law, Linda Rifenberrick of Conneautville; 4 grandchildren, Eric and Matthew Rifenberrick, Jennifer Clanton, and Jacklyn Stay; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nannie Brown of Franklin; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, John W. (Jack) Rifenberrick and a sister, Marjorie Matson.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, 14182 First St., Harmonsburg. The funeral and committal service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with the Rev. James Tubbs, Pastor of Harmonsburg United Methodist Church officiating and assisted by the Rev. Dr. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ. Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
