Mrs. Luna O. Buckingham, 99, dearly loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Wesbury United Methodist Community, where she had resided for the past six years.
She was born January 9, 1899, at Rices Landing, Green County, PA a daughter of Walter and Rosa Guesman. She married Guy E. Buckingham June 9, 1920, and he preceded her in death April 19, 1987. She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church since she and her family moved from Evanston, IL to Meadville in 1929. For many years she was an active member and officer of the Antique Study Club, various church circles, the Women's Auxiliary of Meadville City Hospital, and Allegheny College faculty wives groups. Luna was known for her sense of humor and unusual memory often recalling incidents from her earlier days.
Survivors include one son, Mervin "Bud" Buckingham (Polly) of Orleans, MI; one daughter, Betty Pond of Littleton, CO; seven grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Velma Stuart of Erie and Wilma Frey of Chillicothe, OH. She was preceded in death by an infant son and one sister, Helen Kline.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
