Lyle O. Dempsey, 85, formerly of Guys Mills, former tax assessor in Troy Township, died Saturday, February 2, 1991, at Wesbury United Methodist Community following a brief illness.
He was born at Dempseytown, Venango County, March 19, 1905, a son of Carl and Enid Weikel Dempsey. He married Genevieve Ames February 8, 1928. She survives.
He was a member of the Chapmanville Community Church for 30 years, a former Sunday School teacher and superintendent, a board member and choir member of his church. He served as tax assessor for Troy Township for over 40 years. He retired from the Eager Beaver Lumber Company of Meadville where he had been employed for 12 years, and previously had been a sawmill worker for Raymond Armstrong.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Mrs. Gene (Clara) Bruce of Aliquippa, Mrs. Edward (Patricia Grace) Hamilton of Little Cooley and Mrs. Terry (Saundra Jean) Burch of Meadville; three sons, Carl Russell Dempsey of Guys Mills, Raymond Glenn Dempsey of Meadville and Daniel David Dempsey of Red Bluff, CA; one sister, Mrs. Grace Pipper of Meadville; 24 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy; a brother, Glenn Dempsey and a grandson, Raymond Burch.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
