M. Lucille Sutherland Bales, 74, of Meadville, died Sunday, May 24, 1992, at Wesbury after an 18-month illness.
She was born in Grove City, PA, on September 10, 1917, a daughter of Martha Sutherland Beckstein of Greenville and the late Harold C. Sutherland.
Mrs. Bales was employed for 34 years by the Cribbs Home in Wesbury until her reitrement February 1, 1992. She was a graduate of Jamestown, PA, public schools and received beatician training in Sharon.
She had been a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lewis Walker Lodge Auxiliary in Meadville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bales, a former Meadville police officer who died November 4, 1985; a brother, Harold Sutherland, Jr.; her stepfather, Charles Beckstein; and a grandson, Michael Ball.
Besides her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George (Sally) Ball of Cambridge Springs and Mrs. Nancy Crawford of Meadville; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Jean) Basiorka of Hadley, PA and Mrs. Gail (Lillian) Lewis of Greenville; a half brother, Thomas Sutherland of Jamestown; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Murphy, Wesbury, Chaplain, officiating.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
