M. Ethel Carpenter, 96, formerly of Townville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community since June 1982, died there, Sunday, July 4, 1999 following a period of declining health.
She was born September 17, 1902 in Monroe County, OH, a daughter of the late James and Lula Shook Schoonover. She married W. Creighton Carpenter and her preceded her in death in 1975.
She was a homemaker and former member and past officer of the Rebekah Lodge, Townville. She was affiliated with the Troy Center United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Myrtle Van Campen of Sedona, AZ; a half brother, Edward V. Jones of Sun City, AZ; a devoted daughter-in-law, Helen Carpenter Gilliam of Newberry, SC; four grandchildren, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Dunn, Marlene Dominick, Mrs. Micheal (Nancy) Newman and Gary V. Carpenter; six great-grandchildren; and also nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, V. Meade Carpenter and a brother, Ollie Schoonover.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Kingsley Cemetery.
