M. June (Allison) Niggel Batchlet, 102, passed away peacefully with loving family by her side on September 9, 2020 at the Marquette Hospice House. She formerly lived on Williamson Road, Meadville. June fought dementia for more than 10 years while at the Crawford County Care Center.
June was born on January 25, 1918, the daughter of Francis and Elma (Baun) Allison. She was born at home in Covode, PA. She graduated from Randolph High School (Guys Mills), and was a member of Lincolnville Baptist Church. June first worked at JC Penney Co. Shoe Department, then moved to Canadohta Lake where she worked at the Roller Rink (where she learned to skate!). She married Ralph Batchlet in 1963. Together, they traveled to their homes in Florida for many years with their two best friends.
“June Bug” enjoyed sewing and knitting beautiful dresses. She was always dressed to the nines and very well accessorized. She loved dark chocolate and swore it to be the secret to longevity!
June is survived by her son, John Robert Niggel (Sheena) of Florida, former daughter-in-law, Gloria Rockwell of Meadville, and step-daughter Carolyn Byrne of Meadville. Grandsons: Brett Niggel (Delly) of Chicago, Jeff Niggel (Kim) of Buffalo, Brian Niggel (Tina) of Union City, Jason Niggel (Rosa) of Erie, two step-grandchildren, Barbara Walter and Don Hanna, both of Florida; five great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are niece, Penny Sanzari (David) of Cochranton, great-nephew Evan Sanzari of Cochranton, and great-niece Kelly June Sanzari of Pittsburgh.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Elma Sisco, brothers John Allison, Francis Edwin Allison, and Thomas Allison, step-daughter, Louise Hanna.
Calling hours will be Sunday, September 13th from 2 to 4 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the wearing of masks is requested. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ben Travis, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
