Miss Mabel R. Monroe, 89, formerly of Guys Mills, died Monday, March 5, 1979, after an extended illness at the United Methodist Nursing Hospital where she had been a patient for six years.
She was born in Moville, Iowa, March 17, 1889, a daughter of Edward and Ella Hatch. She was later adopted by Eugene and Louella Monroe of Guys Mills.
Miss Monroe attended the United Church of Guys Mills. She was a graduate of Randolph High School and of the former Edinboro State Normal School. She received a bachelor's and master's degrees from Colorado State Teachers College. She taught school in Easton, PA, Denning, NM and for 31 years at Punxsutawney High School.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Caffey, a resident at the United Methodist Nursing Home; two nieces; one nephew and one cousin.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Hatch.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
