Mrs. Mabel S. Richard, of Meadville, a charter member of several Meadville organizations and one of the most active Defense Savings Bond sellers during World War II, died Saturday, April 29, 1961, at her home after a short illness.
Mrs. Richard was the widow of Paul H. Richard, Meadville's first resident architect and founder of the old Mill Run Lumber Co. They were married December 24, 1895.
She was a charter member of the YWCA, Meadville Woman's Club and Rota Literary Club; was a member of the Woman's Club garden division and City Hospital Advisory Board. She served for many years as secretary of the board of Meadville Home for the Aged and assisted for many years in operation of the home's Aid Shop, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church and had been active in its church organizations until recent years.
Mrs. Richard was born in Woodcock Township, a daughter of Gaylord and Ida Roudebush Smith. She graduated from Blooming Valley High School and from Meadville High School, Miss Lupher's Select School and the Beethoven School of Music in Meadville.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Leon P. (Lucille) Pierson of Meadville and Mrs. Frank M. (Dorothy) Starling of Houston, TX; a brother, Sharon Smith of Cleveland; a grandson, L. Richard Pierson of Meadville and two great-grandchildren, Ann and Paul Richard Pierson.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
