Mabelle Wiard Willmarth

September 11, 1903 — January 15, 1997

Mabelle Wiard Willmarth, 93, a resident of Meadville Health and Rehabilitation Center, died there Wednesday, January 15, 1997 following a period of declining health.

She was born September 11, 1903, in Cussewago, Township, Crawford County, a daughter of the late Henry W. and Clara Waldo Wiard.  She married Arthur L. Willmarth on August 6, 1939.  He preceded her in death on November 6, 1970.

She was a member of the Alfred, NY Seventh Day Baptist Church and the Seventh Day Baptist Missionary Society; she attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Meadville.  She was a graduate of the former Edinboro State Normal School and an honors graduate of Alfred University, Alfred, NY.  She did post graduate work at Teachers College, Columbia University.  She retired in 1968 after teaching 31 years in Crawford Co., the last 20 years at Fredericksburg School.  She was a life member of the PA Assn. of School Retirees and  was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.  She enjoyed writing poetry and having some of it published in the Sabbath Recorder.

She is survived by one son, John H. Willmarth of Meadville.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Clyde (Mildred) Ehret and a brother, H. Waldo Wiard.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Venango Cemetery.
