Madeline J. Rough

August 27, 1904 — January 24, 2005

Madeline J. Rough, 100, formerly of 445 N. Main St., Meadville and a current resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, died there, Monday, January 24, 2005.

She was born August 27, 1904 in Franklin, a daughter of the late O. Kelse and Dora Cubbison Jolley.  She married Norman R. Rough May 28, 1927 and he preceded her in death October 10, 1982.

She was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School and a 1922 graduate of Welches Business College, Oil City.  She worked in the office of Patrons Mutual Insurance Co., Meadville for 22 years.  She previously worked at Franklin Manufacturing Co., Franklin.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Meadville.

She was an active pianist and organist for many years, teaching many children at the Odd Fellows Home on N. Main Street, Meadville.  She also played at numerous churches including, 11 years at Park Congregational Church, 22 years at Deckard’s United Methodist Church, 6 years at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 10 years at Norrisville United Methodist Church, and occasionally at Grace United Methodist Church.  She was also a former Grange member.

Survivors include 2 grandsons, Ronald L. Rough and his wife Connie of Walkersville, MD and Robert P. Rough and his wife Paula of Frederick, MD; 6 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Donald E. Rough and Paul E. Rough; a grandson, Larry L. Rough; and a brother, Errol L. Jolley.

Calling hours are today (Tuesday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral service will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Peters Cemetery, Canal Township, Venango County.
