Madge H. Larson

April 12, 1920 — May 25, 2015

Madge H. Larson, 95, of Meadville, died Monday, May 25, 2015 at Meadville Medical Center.

She was born April 12, 1920 in Meadville, a daughter of John and Marie Arthur Hills.  She married Clayton C. (Clay) Larson January 21, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1958.

Madge was a 1938 graduate of Meadville High School.  She began working for the Meadville Housing Authority in 1957 and served as executive director for 20 years until her retirement in 1984.  Madge’s many days of hard work and long hours have made the City of Meadville a better place to live and a town we can be proud to call our own.  It was Madge’s efforts that brought us Holland Towers in 1971 and William Gill Village in 1972, two fine additions to our community.

Madge had been the recipient of the Civic Recognition Award by the state of Pennsylvania which recognizes recipients for acts of compassion and kindness.  The purpose of this award is to inspire people to help others and improve their communities.

Madge enjoyed reading and knitting and had been the director of the Miss Crawford County Pageant for many years.

Survivors include a son, Clay Larson of Monterey, CA; a daughter, Diane Patterson and her husband Bill of Savannah, GA; five grandchildren, Susan Clemens, David Patterson, Derek Larson, Jill Hackett, and Jamie Larson; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Starn.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hills Heil.

A private family graveside service will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens followed by interment.

Memorials may be made to Active Aging, Inc., 1034 Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335.

The Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville has been entrusted with the arrangements where memories and condolences may be shared at www.waidfuneralhom.net.
