Mae C. Stewart

Mae C. Stewart, 84, of Meadville, died peacefully Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at her residence.

Mae was born September 22, 1937 in Sewickley, the daughter of William S. and Elizabeth Young Cook.  She married Richard A. Stewart on October 29, 1960, by whom she was preceded in death on June 5, 2016.

A proud University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing graduate, Mae earned her B.S. in Nursing in 1960.  Throughout her dedicated career, Mae shared her passion for helping others as a nursing instructor at Meadville City Hospital and the Meadville Vo-Tech, as a pediatric nurse at City Hospital, and as a registered nurse in the office of Dr. David Kirkpatrick and Dr. John Nesbitt.  She retired from Pioneer Medical Associates.

Mae was a longtime member of Stone United Methodist Church where she served in a variety of leadership roles throughout the years.  She was formerly active as a member of the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, and as an alumni advisor to Kappa Alpha Theta at Allegheny College.  More recently, Mae served on the Forest Hills’ Condominium Association Board and was a member of the Meadville Women’s Club.  None of these commitments ever took priority over the love and support she provided her family – her husband, her daughters and their husbands, and her Fabulous 4 grandchildren (Fantastic 5 as of May 2021).

Survivors include two daughters, Lynne Herrman (Jed) of Scarborough, ME and Karen Mitton (Greg) of Allentown and four grandchildren, Katy Mitton, J.D. Herrman, Alex Mitton (Erin), and Jenny Herrman.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, November 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

A memorial service will be Saturday, November 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St., Meadville with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St. or the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Rd., both of Meadville, PA 16335.
