Margaret A. Mccarl

Margaret A. (Peg) McCarl, 93, formerly of Guys Mills and a current resident of the Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, died there, Tuesday, April 22, 2008. She was born in Guys Mills September 28, 1914, a daughter of the late Ward and Fern Cutshall Applegate. She married Paul McCarl March 6, 1944 and he preceded her in death July 19, 1971. A graduate of Randolph High School, She worked at Randolph High School first in the custodial department and subsequently in the cafeteria. She previously worked at the American Viscose. Margaret was a former member of the Randolph Grange and enjoyed gardening, quilting, and canning. She will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends. Survivors include a daughter, Anne M. Wallace of Columbia, SC; 3 stepchildren, George E. McCarl of Kensington, MD; Harold L. McCarl and his wife Pat of Winchester, VA; and Nellie Hix of Jamestown, NY; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 stepchildren, Dorothy Wilcher and John L. McCarl; a brother, Harley Applegate; and 4 sisters, Helen Wygant, Ruth Grundy, Lurlie (Billie) Rickard, and Juanita Bowdoin. Calling hours will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. A funeral and committal service will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Robert Burns, grandson officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
