Margaret E. Horvat, 85, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since March 1999, died there, Friday, April 29, 2011, following a period declining health.
She was born in Moosic, PA February 7, 1926 a daughter of Ernest D. and Ruth Aikinson Stull. She married James G. Horvat in Scranton, PA November 30, 1951 and he preceded her in death January 26, 1980.
She retired in 1984 as Head Nurse of the Pediatric Dept. of the former Spencer Hospital in 1984 after 17 years of service. She previously had worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Philadelphia.
She was a graduate of Moosic High School in Moosic, PA and she earned her Registered Nurse degree in 1947 from West Side Hospital School of Nursing in Scranton, PA.
She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, a volunteer greater to new residents of Wesbury United Methodist Community, enjoyed playing cards and was a passionate Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan.
Survivors, include: two sons, James G. Horvat, Jr. and his wife Susan of Erie and Thomas J. Horvat and his wife Charlene of Meadville; six grandchildren, Kristen Horvat, Bryan Horvat, Natalie Horvat, Charles Horvat, Robert Horvat and Kaylie Horvat and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Stull and a sister, Alda McStravick.
Calling hour will be Monday from 12-1 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral and committal service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ellen Rezek, Chaplain of Wesbury United Methodist Community, officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Wesbury Benevolent Care Fund, Wesbury Foundation, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335.
