Margaret H. 'Peg' Bates

Margaret H. “Peg” Bates, 90, a former Meadville resident, and a resident of The Forum at the Crossing, Indianapolis, IN since l997, died there Tuesday, February 12, 2002, following a period of declining health.

She was born in Pittsburgh, April 22, 1911, a daughter of Walter and Alma Brown Herr.  She married Robert S. Bates in 1933, and he preceded her in death in 1988.

She was a 1932 graduate of Allegheny College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.  She had been an active member of the Meadville congregation of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, and was especially interested in the Academy Theater.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Starn and her husband Jon, of Somerset and Rebecca Skeen and her husband David, of New Concord, OH; a son, Robert S. Bates, Jr., and his wife Jean, of Carmel, IN; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother Walter G. Herr, Jr.

A private family graveside service will be held in Greendale Cemetery.
