Margaret J. “Peggy” Smith, 80, of Guys Mills, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Meadville Medical Center.
She was born in Cambridge Springs, October 18, 1931 a daughter of Elmer and Josephine Blystone Owen. She married Richard Alden Smith, May 12, 1953 and he preceded her in death May 22, 2002.
She was a 1949 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School. She was the first woman bus drive for the Randolph-East Mead/ Penncrest Day Care, driving from 1965-1993. She also drove the Children’s Library vehicle. After retiring she drove a van for the P.M. Bus Co. for special needs children for several years. She was a Girl Scout leader in Cambridge Springs from 1951-1953. She was a very active member of New Beginnings Church of God and she enjoyed knitting and social networking.
Survivors, include: five sons, Richard O. Smith and his wife Barbara of Linesville, Gregory Smith and his wife Joy of Melbourne, FL, Kenneth Smith and his wife Kay of Cochranton, Thomas Smith and his wife Monica of Guys Mills and Keith Smith and his wife Gwen of Guys Mills; fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Owen and Charles (Bob) Owen.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville with the Rev. Harold Ferraro and Rev. Temple Jarrell, Pastors, officiating.
Interment will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
The family suggests memorials be made to New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
