Margot (Peggy) Heme, 66, of Guys Mills, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 at her residence following a 3-month courageous battle with cancer.
She was born January 3, 1942 in Meadville, a daughter of the late Charles (Chad) and Margot Chellman Sanner. She married Thomas R. Heme December 7, 1963 at Wayland Baptist Church.
She was a 1960 graduate of Randolph East Mead High School and received her license in cosmetology from Michael’s Beauty Academy, Erie in 1961. She owned and operated Peggy’s Beauty Shop in Guys Mills from 1962 to 1966. After her children were raised, she worked as a floral designer at Flowers by Lynda in Meadville and Treasured Memories in Cambridge Springs.
In 1964 during the Guys Mills Bicentennial, she served as President of the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and with her husband oversaw the week long activities in the community. She had been a volunteer at the American Cancer Society and Women’s Services (Greenhouse).
Peg was a very active member of Wayland Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconate, choir member, Sunday School teacher, secretary and treasurer. She was always ready to minister to anyone in need and loved helping people.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her special joys were her grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their children. Over the years, she and her husband hosted three foreign exchange students: Bumpei Sasaki from Japan, Antal Nemeth from Budapest, Hungary, and Jonas Graf from Gladbeck, Germany. She and her husband recently traveled to Hungary and Germany and met the students’ parents and their families.
Survivors, in addition to her husband Tom, include two sons, Charles (Chad) Heme and his wife Dawn of Arcade, NY and Jason Heme and his wife Jennifer of Jeffersonville; two grandchildren, Abigail and Genevieve Heme; four step-grandchildren, Justin and Chad Woodruff and Blake and Hilliary Russell; one step-great-grandchild, Addison Woodruff; a brother, Ronald Sanner and his wife Virginia of Guys Mills; two sisters, Ella May Terrill and her husband James of Hendersonville, NC and Grace Bohnert and her husband Neil of Lynchburg, VA; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Heme of Saegertown and Carol Dao Heme of San Luis Obispo, CA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Ann Heme; two brothers, Charles and Frank Sanner; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Sanner; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry and Paul Heme.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Wayland Baptist Church, 11603 S. Wayland Rd., Meadville.
A funeral and committal service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Harlan Nefstead, Pastor of Wayland Baptist Church, Rev. Gerald Walton, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Meadville, and her son, Jason Heme officiating.
Interment will be in Wayland Cemetery.
