Marguerite G. Hild

September 21, 1918 — April 22, 2014

Marguerite G. Hild, 95, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community since 1999, and formerly of 13952 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

She was born September 21, 1918 in Monaca, the eldest of six children of Henry and Margaret Deveney Grosshans.  She graduated from Monaca High School where she had been voted the prettiest girl in her class.  On December 31, 1939 she married A. Ernest Hild, who preceded her in death September 26, 1997.

In her early years, Marguerite worked as a bookkeeper for the Penn-Beaver Hotel in Rochester, PA.  In 1952, she and Ernie moved to Conneaut Lake where they opened Hank’s Frozen Custard on the Conneaut Lake Road.  They owned and operated the business until 1980 when they sold it to their son Rick and his wife Linda.  Although they sold the business, they were both involved with it for many years thereafter.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Gilliand; a son, Richard Hild and his wife Linda whom she thought of as her own, all of Meadville; a son-in-law, Galen Kennel of Port Allegany; a sister, Phyllis Mosca of Monaca; seven grandchildren, Mike Gilliand of Escondido, CA, Marci Finton and her husband Dennis of Meadville, Lisa Trott and her husband Brett of Colorado Springs, CO, Leslie Stewart and her husband Douglas of Erie, Scott Dow and his wife Jennifer of Corry, Christie Roe and her husband Steven of West Salem, OH, and Ryan Hild and his wife Courtney of Meadville; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marguerite was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Kennel in 2008 and three sisters and one brother.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all of the staff at Wesbury for the care Marguerite received while there, especially those at Village Center in Grace Nursing Center.

At her request, cremation will take place.  A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.  Marguerite’s wishes were that memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where memories and condolences may be shared at waidfuneralhome.net.
