Marian E. Berkey

Marian E. Berkey, 82 of 12004 N. Dawn Drive, Meadville and formerly a long time Johnstown resident died Friday, June 16, 2006 at Meadville Medical Center after being a 35 year cancer survivor.

She was born May 4, 1924 in Forty Fort, PA a daughter of William and Ellie Thomas Roberts.  She married Leon H. Berkey January 20, 1949 and he survives.

She was a 1943 Graduate of Kingston Twp. High School and was a part of the Air Force Nursing Cadet program during World War II.  She worked over the years as a nurse at Beachwood Nursing Home and Lee Hospital both in Johnstown.  She was a member of the Adams Twp. (Cambria Co.) Farm Women, TOPS and Grace United Methodist Church of Meadville.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Leon of 57 years, include: two sons, Lloyd Berkey and his wife Robin of Meadville and Thomas Berkey and his wife Ann of St. Augustine, FL; one sister, Helen Long of Wilkes-Barre; four grandchildren, William Berkey and his wife Michelle, Adam Berkey, Catherine Berkey and Cassandra Berkey and three great grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua and Jeremiah.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
