Marian E. Smith

Marian E. Smith, 95, of 739 Albright Drive, died Wednesday Feb. 25, 2004, at Meadville Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in East Mead Twp. Crawford Co., PA, Jan. 12, 1909, a daughter of Oscar D. & Hattie Britton Smith.

She was a 1927 graduate of Meadville High School, and obtained her Teaching Certificate from Edinboro State Teacher’s College, later obtaining her Bachelor’s in Education degree from Edinboro.

She first taught at the Randolph Consolidated Schools of Guys Mills from 1929 to 1935, and then taught in the Meadville and Crawford Central School Systems at Second District School and East End School, retiring in 1972 after 43 years of teaching.

She was a life member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, a former Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.

She was a life member of the Crawford County & PA Retired Teacher’s Assn.

Survivors include 1 sister, Mildred Bowen of Chambersburg,  1 niece and 1 nephew.

She was preceded in death by 1 sister, Marjorie E. Smith.

Arrangements are incomplete, and under direction of Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St. and will be announced at a later date.
