Marian H. Shady, 96, formerly of Prospect Street, Meadville and a resident of Wesbury Hillside Home died there Thursday, August 16, 2012.
She was born March 29, 1916 in Meadville a daughter of Jesse W. and Geraldine H. Drake Hunter. She married Oliver L. Shady August 5, 1950 and he preceded her in death January 30, 1991.
She was a 1934 graduate of Meadville High School and attended Meadville Commercial College from 1934-1935. She worked at Allegheny College as a secretary for H.P. Way until 1942. She then worked at Talon first from 1943-1945 and then from 1948-1952. She was a member for over 75 years of the First Presbyterian Church and volunteered for many years at the American Red Cross. She loved crocheting, her cat, Smokey and spending time with her extended family especially her great nieces and great nephews.
She is survived by two nephews, James G. Hunter and his wife Janet of The Villages, FL and Jeffrey E. Hunter and his wife Berneice of Meadville; several great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James F. Hunter; a niece, Deborah A. Sweeney; a nephew, Thomas E. Hunter and a great great nephew, Malachi J. Gage.
Calling hours will be Monday from 1-3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Peters, Assoc. Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
