Marian Hutchinson Brown

January 30, 1915 — February 6, 2007

Marian Hutchinson Brown, 92, of 211 Meadow Street, Meadville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 06, 2007 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

Marian was born in Hartford, CT on January 30, 1915, the daughter of Dwight and Alice Winifred (English) North.  On August 25, 1939, she married Richard L. Brown, and together they raised four lucky children in Meadville.  Marian will e remembered for her devotion to her family and to the scores of Allegheny students who were welcomed into the Brown home over the years.  She shared with all who knew her an ingenious sense of humor, a wide-ranging intellectual curiosity and love of reading, and an ability to savor what life presented.  Her homemaking skills set the stage for many a fine meal and lively discussion with friends and family.  She especially enjoyed her involvement with the Unitarian Church in Meadville and the many friends she made there.

She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Winifred and Margaret, her brother, Olcott and his wife Evelyn, her sisters-in-law, Jessie, Helen and Florence, her husband Richard and their son, David.

She is survived by three children: Maron Hays and her husband Dave of Gainesville, FL, Alan T. Brown, her devoted caregiver of Meadville and Deborah Greenough and her husband Dave of North Hero, VT.  She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Ian, Douglas and Heather Calderwood, Phillip Mays and his wife Stacey, Brent Mays, as well as two great-grandchildren, Colton and Harper Mays.

The family wishes to express our profound gratitude to Dr. Ken Challener and the staff and volunteers at the Meadville Medical Center and to the staff and volunteers at Grace Nursing Center and the Senior Day Care Center at Wesbury for the kind and loving care they provided Marian.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marian’s memory may be made to the Wesbury Foundation, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
