Marian Wages McDowell, 66, of Meadville, a retired teacher, died at Meadville Medical Center, Saturday, March 9, 1991, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Randolph Township, May 11, 1924, a son of Myron O. and Hazel Walters Bogardus. She married Spencer Wages, who preceded her in death in 1964. She subsequently married Thomas L. McDowell, April 14, 1972. He survives.
She was retired in 1968 from teaching at the Brookhauser Elementary School in the Penncrest School District, after 29 years of service. She was a member of the Meadville Alliance Church; a former Sunday School teacher and Sunday school superintendent; a member of the woman's missionary prayer fellowship; served as counselor at Edinboro Conference Ground, Christian and Missionary Alliance Camp; a graduate of Nyack Bible College, Nyack, NY; and received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Edinboro State Teachers College.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three step-daughters, Carol Acker of Hixson, TN, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Jones of Saegertown and Mrs. Ronald (Mabel) Cummings of Linesville; three stepsons, Forrest McDowell of Dayton, OH, David McDowell of Meadville and Thomas McDowell, serving with the US Army in Budapest, Hungary; eight stepgrandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernita Walls.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
