Marie R. Smith

Marie R. Tagliaferri Smith, 86, of Meadville, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at Meadville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born September 18, 1925 in Oil City, a daughter of Louie and Genevieve Floria Gammello. She married Edward Tagliaferri September 29, 1945 and he preceded her in death August 27, 1985. She subsequently married William B. Smith, III September 10, 1994 and he preceded her in death May 1, 2011. Marie attended St. Josephs Catholic School, Oil City and was employed as a clerk typist at Talon for 24 years. A member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, she was formerly active in the Altar Rosary Society, was a former member of the Church Choir and was a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Marie was an avid writer and was noted for her work in the local Charity Follies. Survivors include a daughter, Marita Kaminski and her husband John of Austintown, OH; a son, Paul Tagliaferri and his wife Karen of Cary, NC; 2 step-daughters, Sondra Fitch and her husband William of Cambridge Springs and Toni Daughenbaugh and her husband Ronald of Hudson, FL; a stepson, Thomas Kulczycke and his wife Susie of Chapel Hill, FL; 2 sisters, Julia Gianvito of Pennsauken, NJ and Rose Frank of Oil City; 6 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; numerous step-great-grandchildren; and numerous niece and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Eleanor Capporletti, Jennie Castanzo, and Josephine Czekalski and 3 brothers, Charles, Clement, and Fred Gammello. Calling hour will be Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Fr. Mark OHern as Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Brigid Church or St. Brigid Church Choir, 967 Chancery Ln., Meadville, PA 16335.
