Marilyn J. Mears, 67, of 6976 Franklin Pike, Meadville, died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at her residence following a 3½-year multiple myeloma illness.

She was born March 16, 1935 in Meadville, a daughter of the late Frank and Alice Salmon Childs.  She married Fred Mears July 25, 1959.

She was a 1953 graduate of Randolph-East Mead High School and attended Houghton College, Houghton, NY.  She was a homemaker and had previously worked as a nurse’s aid at the former Meadville City Hospital.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and was an amateur artist, author, and poet.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and ministered to various shut-ins.  She devoted her life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to use as He pleased.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 42 years, include 1 son, Allen D. Mears of Meadville; 2 sisters, Linda Mears Johnston and her husband Steven of Lexington, NC and Barbara J. McGahee and her husband Dwayne of Grovetown, GA; 1 sister, Lucile Stallard and her husband Dwight of Conneaut Lake; 1 brother, Norman Childs and his wife Arlean of Olney, IL; 4 grandchildren, Catrina and Sheena Johnston and Ashleigh and Allison McGahee; and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Cecile Stewart.

Calling hours will be today (Friday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 543 Randolph St., Meadville with Rev. Douglas Messerall officiating.

Burial will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
