Marilyn Jean (Tootie) Snyder, 90, of Meadville, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Wesbury United Methodist Community. Having been a lifelong resident of Meadville, she previously had been a resident of Hillside Home.
She was born August 22, 1927 in Meadville, a daughter of the late Harry Bryan and Katherine Sherman Muckinhoupt. She married V. Lynn Snyder September 18, 1948 and he preceded her in death April 5, 1996. They had two children, Frederick (Fritz) Snyder and Carol Doeffinger.
Mrs. Snyder, also known as “Tootie,” graduated from Meadville High School with the class of 1945. She attended Allegheny College, class of 1949 and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Later she was a member of the Kappa Gamma advisory board, along with being personnel advisor to the Kappa’s at Allegheny. Tootie was a member and director of the Meadville Business and Professional Women’s Club and also a board member and officer of the Crawford County Historical Society. She, for many years, was an advisory board member of the Hillside Home prior to Wesbury’s consolidation. She particularly enjoyed taking part in the Meadville Garden Club’s Trees of Christmas at the Baldwin Reynolds House where she was also a docent for the Baldwin Reynolds House.
As a student at Allegheny, she worked in various campus offices. Early on she knew that the Alumni Affairs Office was going to be her choice for the future. After raising her two children to school age, she went back to Allegheny in 1961 working in the Alumni Office. After nearly 30 years, she retired in 1987 from this office as the assistant alumni secretary for Allegheny College. Marilyn was recognized by Allegheny for her years of dedicated service to the college by receiving the Blue Citation and Alumni Medal awards.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two children, Frederick (Fritz) Snyder (Joyce) of Meadville and Carol Doeffinger (Derek) of Fairport, NY; three grandchildren, Jeffrey B. Snyder (Deborah), Darci Cidila (Michael), both of Hermitage, and Bari Doeffinger (Chris Martin) of Ithaca, NY; and four great-grandchildren, Bryce, Grace, and Abigail Snyder and four week old Gabriella Cidila, all of Hermitage.
