Marion C. Grabel, 97, formerly of Harmonsburg and a resident of Rolling Fields, passed away there, Saturday, September 14, 2019. She was born November 21, 1921 in Newton, NJ a daughter of John and Elizabeth Adkins Cornell. She married Harry E. Grabel December 28, 1945 and he preceded her in death November 18, 1989. Marion was a graduate of Capital University, Columbus, OH. She worked as an elementary school music teacher in Newton, NJ. Following her marriage to Harry they moved to Columbus, OH where she was active in the Lutheran church teaching Sunday School and leading the youth choir. She always made sure her students learned the song "Jesus Loves Me." In 1969 Marion and Harry moved to the Meadville area where she was an active member of the former Lake Lutheran Church in Conneaut Lake serving as President and treasurer of the congregation. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and enjoyed crafting, reading and music. Survivors, include five children, John Grabel (Tanya) of Trivoli, IL, Elizabeth Dechant (David) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Fred Grabel (Kathy) of Cape Girardeau, MO, Kristine Gamble (Klinton) of Harmonsburg and Robert Grabel (Kathy) of Washington, IL; nine grandchildren, Justin, Alyssa, John Andrew, Jennifer, Wesley, Kristen, Eric, Peter and Faye and thirteen great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katherine Dechant and a sister, Harriet Cornell. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Rolling Fields for the wonderful care extended their mother, especially Eileen whom Marion considered as her sixth child. Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 17th from 10-11 a.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake. The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Kathy Petteys, Rolling Fields Chaplain, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
