Marion R. Steen

Marion Rodger Steen, 90, of 20385 Blooming Valley Road, Meadville, died Sat. March 8, 2003, at Wesbury United Methodist Community, following an extended period of declining health.

She was born in Boston, Mass, Feb. 28, 1913, a daughter of Thomas and Jean Rodger.  She married Frederick H. Steen, June 26, 1937, and he survives.

Mrs. Steen received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts-Boston State and taught in the schools of Boston and Atlanta before her appointment to the Meadville Junior High School staff from which position she retired in 1978.

A former member of the YWCA Board of Directors, she was a long time member of Stone United Methodist Church and its Marriott Sunday School Class.

Survivors in addition to her husband of 65 years include, a daughter Martha Whitney of Palo Alto, CA, 4 sons, Robert of Raleigh, NC, John of Zionsville, IN, Rodger of Evergreen CO, and Paul of Ithaca, NY, 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 brother, Alexander M. Rodger of Florida.

She was preceded in death by 1 sister, Martha Gaines.

In accordance with the wishes of the deceased, there will be no calling hours.  Inurnment will be in Greendale Cemetery, with the Rev. William L. Brown, visitation pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.

A Memorial Celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
