Marion R. Reed, 92, of Meadville, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a period of declining health.
She was born November 25, 1923 in Washington, PA, a daughter of David James and Grace Bisel Roach, Sr. She married William E. Reed October 26, 1945 and he preceded her in death April 3, 2001.
Marion graduated from Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth, PA and attended California State Teacher’s College and subsequently nursing school in Washington, PA. She was the former co-owner and operator of Mister Donuts in Meadville.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church, Marion was a charter member of the Meadville Sertoma Club ladies auxiliary, was an associate member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219, was a former member of the Happy Hashers Square Dance Club, was formerly active in the Meadville High School Boys Basketball Boosters, and was formerly active in a craft club.
Marion was a long-time volunteer at the Meadville Medical Center gift shop, ran the concession stand at Bender Field for many years, enjoyed traveling with a group from Wesbury and doing water aerobics and the silver sneakers classes through the Meadville YMCA, and formerly enjoyed attending Meadville High School and Allegheny College sporting events.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Giles and her husband Carey of Saegertown; a son, Dean Reed of Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren, Pamela Boyer, Bill Novak and his wife Kandace, David Luzier, Kelly Scott and her husband Paul, Lynsey Kightlinger and her husband RJ, Christopher Luzier, Darren Giles, and Kimberly Banik; fifteen great-grandchildren, Bob Ryder, Brandi Ryder, Matthew Luzier, Kevin Luzier, Will Scott, Sydney Kightlinger, AJ Kightlinger, Natalie Luzier, Rileigh Luzier, Nathan Luzier, Josh Novak, Taylor Strickland, Mackenzie Gregory, Tyler Snyder, and Max Giles; a great-great-grandson, Brayden Shetler; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Darilynn (Lynn) Running; a sister, Elizabeth Thomas; and a brother, David Roach, Jr.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, PA.
