Marjorie Ann Kilburn, 75, of 718 Wesley Way, Meadville, died Friday, February 1, 2002 at Wesbury United Methodist Community following a period of declining health.
She was born March 27, 1926 in Irondequoit, NY a daughter of J. Wesley and Jennie (Whiting) Walls. She first married Thomas Ashby and subsequently married the Rev. Ralph B. Kilburn April 15, 1961.
She was a 1943 graduate of Fairport, NY High School and she attended Brockport State Teachers College.
She assisted her husband as he served churches in Buffalo, Port Allegheny, Elizabeth, Rimersburg, Ellwood City, Cochranton, Mumford Chapel and Meadville where she was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and its Chancel Choir. She was an accomplished pianist, organist, choir director and teacher. She not only served as music leader to all ages in her husband’s churches but also participated in church and youth events at Wesley Woods United Methodist Camp, Olmstead Manor, Wesbury United Methodist Community and community wide inter-church events. She also had worked as a secretary to the faculty at Buffalo University, as a school bus and ambulance driver in Port Allegheny and as a secretary to the school principal in Rimersburg. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross Gray Ladies and various hospital auxiliaries. Her hobbies included gardening, quilting and post card making.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include six sons, Steven M. Kilburn of Pittsburgh, Rev. Thomas K. Kilburn and his wife Cheryl of North Chili, NY, Douglas H. Kilburn and his wife Cheryl of McKeesport, Lowell W. Kilburn and his wife LuAnn of Rimersburg, Kevin M. Kilburn and his wife Marsha of Yorktown, VA and Keith A. Kilburn and his wife Martina at NATO Headquarters, Belgium; twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Cooper.
A memorial service will be Sunday, February 10th at 3 p.m. at Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St., Meadville, with the Rev. Dr. Jim Durlessor, Pastor, officiating.
