Marjorie B. "Marge" Smith, 82, of Meadville, died Thursday, October 12, 2000 at Wesbury United Methodist Community following a period of declining health.
She was born in Vernon Township, July 9, 1918 a daughter of William Boyd and Gladys May Andrews Corey. She was formerly married to Russell W. Smith.
She retired in 1980 as City of Meadville Clerk and Finance Director after 20 years of service. She also served as acting City Manager on two separate occasions. Previously, she had worked as Clerk of Courts of Crawford County, at the Keystone Ordinance Works, Penelec, Allegheny College and the Meadville Bread Co.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a former church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Meadville Women's Club, former board member of the YWCA, Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville Area Industrial Commission and a former chairman of the Crawford County Industrial Commission.
She was a 1935 graduate of Meadville High School, 1936 graduate of Meadville Commercial College and she attended Allegheny College and the University of Michigan.
Survivors, include a daughter, Judith Isabelle Dunkle of Birmingham, AL; four grandchildren, Jack A. Dunkle, Henry D. Dunkle, Carolyn E. Dunkle and Charles W. Dunkle and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Sisco and two brothers, William Wayne Corey and Richard H. Corey.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
