Marjorie King Katope

September 29, 1918 — July 11, 2010

Marjorie King Katope, 91, formerly of Alden Street, Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died there, Sunday, July 11, 2010.

She was born September 29, 1918 in Winchester, KY a daughter of Lawrence and Laura Spencer King.  She married Christopher G. Katope June 6, 1942 and he preceded her in death October 28, 2002.

She received her AB degree in 1939 from the University of Louisville and then taught art at William Woods College in Fulton, MO for two years.  She also taught for a year at Anatolia College in Thesolanica, Greece and then for ten years she taught English at Meadville Junior High School and Saegertown High School

She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Marjorie had many interests including antiques, gourmet, cooking, travelling, opera, and reading. She was a member of Literary Club, Antique Study Club, as well as donating her time to many community organizations.

Survivors, include: a daughter, Theodora Katope Rowland of Saegertown; a son, Christopher Lawrence Katope and his wife Sharon of Cherry Hill, NJ; three grandchildren, Michael Rowland, Mark Rowland and Milen Katope and two great grandchildren, Allison and Megan.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles King and a sister, Virginia King Smock.

Private services for the family will be held at a later date.
