Marjorie (Doc) Kirk, 84, of Golfview Manor, Meadville died Friday, May 10, 2002 at the Meadville Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Ridgewood, NJ July 15, 1917 a daughter of the late L. Newton and Mabel Mohrman Kirk. After receiving her B.S. degree from Skidmore College and her M.A. degree in Physical Education from the University of Illinois, she taught at the Low-Haywood School in Stamford CT, Barrington School, Great Barrington, MA and the University of Illinois before arriving at Allegheny College in 1945, where she taught in the Physical Education Department until her retirement in 1982. While at Allegheny, she advanced from Instructor to Professor, serving as chairperson of the Womens Physical Education Department, serving on numerous college committees and as advisor for the cheerleaders, Terrapin Synchronized swimming club, Outing Club and the Womens Athletic Association. In the community, she served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Meadville Chapter of the American Cancer Society, as a deliverer for Meals-on-Wheels, as a member of the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and Friends of the Meadville Public Library. She was a recipient of the American Red Cross Clara Burton Volunteer Award for meritorious leadership. She also received the Blue Citation Award from Allegheny College and was named a Fellow of the Timothy Alden Council by Allegheny College in September 2000 and the Outstanding Service Award from Skidmore College. She was also honored by the Meadville Chapter of the Business and Professional Womens Club as one of nine local women as "Women of the Century" in October 2000. Survivors, include a sister, Edith Griffin and her husband Judson of Binghamton, NY; a nephew, Judson S. Griffin Jr. of Binghamton, NY; two nieces, Terri Harvey and her husband Keith of West Springfield, MA and Wendy Demartini and her husband Phil of Grosse Pointe Shores, MI and several grand nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in George Washington Memorial Cemetery, Paramus, NJ. The family suggests memorials be made to the Marjorie Kirk Scholarship Fund, Allegheny College, Meadville, PA 16335. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
