Martha Ailene Blanchard

June 2, 1915 — September 24, 2004

Martha Ailene Blanchard, 89, formerly of Williamson Road, Meadville, and a resident of Upper St. Clair, PA since 2001 died Friday September 24, 2004, at St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born in Meadville June 2, 1915, a daughter of Walter H. Obergh & Georgia M. Orris Obergh Dickey.  She married L. Richard Blanchard November 25, 1937. Mr. Blanchard preceded her in death in April 1975.  She is a direct descendant of Cornelius Van Horne, one of the first settlers of Meadville.

She was a 1934 graduate of Meadville High School and attended Allegheny College.

During her lifetime she was a homemaker, Girl Scout leader and Y-Teen director who also volunteered in the Meadville schools and with the Blood Bank.  She also enjoyed playing bridge and 500 with her many friends.  She was also a member of Tappin Tootsies.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Meadville.

She is survived by five children, L. Richard Blanchard (Joan), Sharon, PA, Deana J. Blanchard, (Charles Young), Burnsville, NC, Georgia A. Arey (Charles), Atlanta, GA, Mary Pam Kilgore (Robert), Pittsburgh and John W. Blanchard, Cheshire, CT, and one brother, Joseph M. Dickey, Williamsville, NY, eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.  The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Brian Jensen, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Meadville Public Library, 848 N. Main Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
