Martha S. Babcock, 93, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville, died there on Saturday, December 17, 2005.
She was born in Cataract, Indiana, on June 17, 1912, the daughter of Harry and Elma Erwin Stevenson. She married Norman N. Babcock in Bloomington, Indiana, on June 14, 1936. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2004.
She was a 1934 graduate of Indiana University and worked as a teacher before raising her family. She later taught at Meadville Area Senior High School. She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, Colonel Crawford Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Woman’s Literary Club, Meadville Garden Club, Meadville Antique Club, Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary, Crawford County Historical Society, YWCA, Meadville Country Club and the Iroquois Club. She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint and other crafts.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Hawes and her husband David of Fort Collins, Colorado; one son, Norman H. (Sandy) Babcock and his wife Sara of Meadville; five grandchildren, David Remington “Rem” Hawes, Steven Hawes, Lori Babcock, Holly Babcock and Benjamin Babcock; two great granddaughters, Morgan and Alexandra Hawes; one niece and two nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death on February 5, 1990, by her brother, William H. Stevenson.
There will be no calling hours.
A private family service will be held at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with the Rev. Gerald H. Murphy, officiating.
Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Meadville Public Library, 848 N. Main Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
