Mary Belle Morford

November 7, 1865 — January 1, 1753

Mrs. Mary Belle Morford, of Meadville, who would have been 91 years of age today, died yesterday morning at Meadville City Hospital.

Still an active member of many local organizations, Mrs. Morford had been a Methodist as long as she could remember and of Stone Methodist Church here for 59 years.

It was only within the past four or five years that Mrs. Morford had retired from a position as superintendent of the home department of the church.  In this capacity, she worked under sponsorship of the Commission on Education, calling on shut-ins and delivering a quarterly publication.

She was born March 7, 1865 - before the Civil War closed - at Raymilton, Venango County as Mary Belle Luse.  As a child she lived with her family in Mercer County and the Crawford County on the Conneaut Lake/Hartstown road.

Mary Belle married William James Morford August 29, 1883.  They lived in Meadville, at Sheakleyville and in the state of Iowa before returning here.  Morford was on the Allegheny College maintenance staff from 1897 to 1914.  Later he operated a grocery store and worked for the Moore Milk Co.  He died in 1935.

Survivors include her sister, Mrs. C. L. Saunders.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
