Mary C. Sheets

Mary C. Sheets, 87, of Meadville, died peacefully after a brief illness Friday, June 06, 2003 at Meadville Medical Center following a long and rewarding life.

She was born December 31, 1915 in Dunmore, WV, a daughter of the late Ira W. and Rella E. Taylor Sheets.  She married Ward Sheets May 25, 1944.

In 1920 the family moved to Meadville.  She was a 1933 graduate of Meadville High School.  Following graduation, she was employed at Talon for 6 years until 1938 as one of the first IBM keypunch operators, and she was a homemaker.  She was a beloved wife and mother whom we pray is now enveloped in peace and joy.  She loved music and gardening.

She was a member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 59 years, include 4 daughters, Virgie G. Johnson and her husband Bruce of Oldsmar, FL; Darlene L. O’Daniels of Oldsmar, FL; Lynette Chapin and her husband Ron of Meadville; and Kathleen G. McDaniel of Spring, TX; a son, Dr. David W. Sheets of Oakland, MD; 7 grandchildren, Lisa Johnson-Firth, Gregory Gilbert, Todd Johnson, Marc Johnson, Heather Hetland, Chad Chapin, and Chase Chapin; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ollie Mae Hart of Meadville and Grace Demeter of Painesville, OH; and a brother, Kyle Sheets of Meadville.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucile Schwab and a brother, Wilson Sheets.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
