Mary Esther Van Slyke

Mary Esther Van Slyke, 91, formerly of Greenville and Meadville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center since November 2014, died there Friday, October 26, 2018. She was born May 29, 1927 in Guys Mills a daughter of Paul E. and Ancinohie Smith Corey. She married Alven Homer (Al) Van Slyke December 24, 1944 and he preceded her in death March 2, 1998. She was a 1944 graduate of Randolph High School and worked in the office of the Drug and Alcohol Program at the former Greenville Hospital and then as an office manager for a business management consultancy also in Greenville. She is survived by a son, Paul H. Van Slyke (Bernadette) of Meadville; a daughter, Lucy A. Courson of Meadville; four grandsons, Paul E. Van Slyke (Jill) of Oil City, Howard L. Van Slyke (Dee) of Oil City, David B. Courson (Melonie) of Meadville and Dr. Jeffery P. Courson (Dr. Sladjana) of Massillon, OH; eight great grandchildren, Tiffany Braun (Cody), Seth Courson (Tara), Christopher Courson, Zachary Courson, Benjamin Courson, Samantha Courson, Michael Van Slyke and Katherine Van Slyke; four great great grandchildren; three sisters, Adora Yokum of Meadville, Paula Brown of Pendleton, IN and Jennie Kimmel (Jerome) of Nobelsville, IN and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ernest L. Courson. A private family memorial service will be held with Rev. Frank Weingard, officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty Street, Meadville, PA 16335 or the Crawford County Care Center, 20881 State Hyw 198, Saegertown, PA 16433.
