Mary Jo Smith

Mary Jo Smith, 71, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.

She was born September 29, 1950 in Meadville, a daughter of Peter and Antoinette Endress Stagl.  She married Russell G. “Cowboy” Smith June 29, 1996 and he preceded her in death November 27, 2001.

Mary Jo was a 1968 graduate of Conneaut Valley High School and attended Edinboro University.  A homemaker, she also worked various jobs in the Meadville area.

Mary Jo was the treasurer of Crawford County Area Scholarships, was a member of the Hilltoppers, was an avid Steelers fan, and especially loved taking care of her family.

Survivors include five children, Julie Tomlinson (Doug) of Girard, Sandy Bazinet of Doral, FL, Stephen Eric Smith (Jennifer) of Liberty Hill, TX, Peggy McKain (Tim) of Meadville, and Stefanie Jordan of Meadville; a sister, Karen Shreve (Dan) of Conneautville; a brother, Pete Stagl (Deb) of Springboro; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Stagl and two great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received Sunday, September 4th from 10-11 a.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dustin Heath, Meadville Medical Center Chaplain, officiating.

Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
