Mary Josephine Webb

Mary Josephine Webb, 81, of Meadville, a patient at Wesbury United Methodist Community since July 1986, died Saturday, September 5, 1987, at Wesbury.

Miss Webb was born in Meadville, August 6, 1906, a daughter of Curtis L. and Josephine Bates Webb.

She was a 1927 graduate of Allegheny College and received her masters in library science from Columbia University, New York City.

She was librarian at Horace Mann School for Boys, New York City.  She also worked as clerk at Columbia University book store; a researcher for Battin, Barton, Durstine and Osborne, New York City; and librarian at the New York Times, New York.  She was employed by the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, Ohio, from 1956 to 1965.  She was director of Meadville Public Library from 1965 to 1971.

She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and a former member of the Zonta Club.

Survivors include two sisters, Miss Helen Webb of Meadville and Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Campbell of Newtown and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death one sister, Dorothy Hart and one brother, Arthur Webb.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
